Adopted
Chipper
came to live with his new foster family on Thanksgiving Eve; and it was a
wonderful gift for all concerned. His foster mom, another golden boy, and a cat
welcomed this very handsome 4 year old male Golden. And oh boy was he thankful!
Chipper came from a San Antonio home that did not want him any longer. He has
spent his life as an outdoor dog, only being baby gated in a kitchen when the
weather was bad. His previous owners had two children, a Chihuahua, a Dachshund,
plus cats. He got along fabulously with everyone --even tolerated a 2 year old
trying to ride him like a horse. He's truely an all around experienced Golden.
Chipper (I also like to call him Mr. Chips) is a gorgeous light golden color
with a light face and wonderful white eye lashes which give him the soft, gentle
look that fits his personality. He appears a little skinny, but I am now feeding
him twice a day instead of only once a day which is what he was used to. He has
had his shots, is heartworm negative, and will be neutered soon.
On Thanksgiving Day I gave him a bath, trimmed the hair between his pads, and he
was an excellent behaved young man. Two days later he let me finish the hair
trimming and cut some hair mats. He loves to be brushed.
Mr. Chips is an affectionate boy and so appreciative for attention, especially
being allowed in the house like a true family member. His foster brother has
introduced him to sleeping on their human’s bed and Mr. Chips is now in doggy
heaven. He knows basic commands: sit, lay down, stay, and “no”. He was so
excited to be allowed inside with his new people and 4 legged family members. He
loves belly rubs, hugs, kisses, giving kisses and nudging your hand when he
needs more love.
He has obviously never been walked nor had rides in a car, but he is now walking
and running every day with his new golden friend and his foster mom. He loves to
walk and waits at the closet by the front door where his leash is kept for his
daily walk. He is a quick study! He had never retrieved before and in short
order he is now helping his foster brother in the retrieving area! He loves his
stuffed animals and sterilized bones. His only toys in his previous home were a
stick and a broken comb. Oh how thankful he is now to have all these fun toys
around him. He did wonderfully on the ride from his old house to his new foster
family but it's clear that he's not been on many rides. We took him out once
since and he was a little nervous about the whole thing. This too will shall
pass in time with more fun car rides in his future.
On our walks, he is great when meeting unfamiliar people and animals. In fact,
he hasn't barked since he's been here, but does have a sweet low grunting sound
when he is happy and being loved.
He is a fabulous little fellow with a lot of love to give to his forever family.
GRR is thankful that we can help save wonderful Goldens like Chipper and we're
sure you'll be thankful to have Chipper as a member of your family.
