Adopted

Buddy is a 7-month-old puppy who comes to GRR from loving owners in San Antonio. Life changes meant Mom was away from home almost all day, and well into the evening, too. She didn’t want her healthy, happy pup to get sad and lonely, so she turned to GRR for help with this big boy.

Buddy has been fostering with us for about 6 weeks now and has settled right in! He follows me around and puts his nose on everything I am doing. He just loves the crushed-ice dispenser in the fridge door. He will stand and stare at it, waiting for it to dispense those wonderful icy chew treats. A couple of days after giving Buddy his first few pieces of ice, I caught him trying to work the dispenser himself!  I know he thought he was saving me the work and that he was ready for the "self-serve world" of treats. And speaking of water, frozen and otherwise—one totally cute thing he does is stand at the side of our pond trying to be good by not getting his feet wet (we are teaching him that wading right into the water is a no-no), yet stre-e-etching his neck out to drink from the bubbling fountain in

the middle.  Guess ice cubes and bubbles are a lot more interesting than the good old water bowl!

Buddy barked and whined a bit in his crate when we first got him, but now he is very good when crated and sleeps peacefully through the night, even if there is a thunderstorm. He might still whine a little when first crated, and again when we come home and he sees us, of course – after all, he is eager to get out and play. Buddy sometimes has the funniest way of napping in his crate—I have found him leaning against the side wall of the crate, fast asleep; and then he slides down the wall, still fast asleep, with his gums flapping on the wire! I thought I was going to bust something laughing at him.

Buddy is good friends with his Golden big brother Charlie, and they have a rip-roaring good time as they frolic around. Buddy loves to bring the ball to Charlie and drop it right in front of him.  Buddy even plays fetch with himself—he throws the ball down the steps, trots down to get it, and repeats the process all over again.

Like any happy Golden, Buddy wants to get as close to you as he can, but we are working on teaching him not to jump up on us. I think he will soon learn that he can get plenty of pets while keeping all four paws on the ground! Buddy really enjoys being brushed, though he does wiggle around a bit. He’s not so crazy about getting a manicure, though, so we are working on that too.

When he’s up and around, Buddy is on the move. Like any typical pup, he likes to nose around and sniff and investigate everything – with frequent breaks for petting, of course. He just loves affection! We recently had seven houseguests visiting from California; Buddy was in love with all of them, and by the time they left, they were in love with him too. One of our friends really wanted to take Buddy with him.

Buddy likes to stick his nose between your legs when you are standing and “hide” his face. It is so cute, and he is such a sweetie!
