Carson
is great fun. He is a "play" boy in every sense of the word. Give him a tennis
ball and he's your friend for hours. If you don't give him a tennis ball, he'll
find one and be your friend for hours! We've fostered 33 dogs in the last three
years. They have all been special in one way or another, but Carson is one of
the top four dogs we've seen. His personality is happy. His "wagger" works great
and he is a true retriever. He knows the word "no" and is a smart learner. He
loves people and gets along with other dogs, and cats too.
Carson
was found in San Antonio by a Good Samaritan who made all the right arrangements
to ensure Gold Ribbon Rescue would find him a good home. He came into our house
a week ago and has already created a niche in our hearts because of his great
personality and fun disposition. He's about 14 to 16 months old and has a
beautiful, silky strawberry blonde coat.
Carson
gets along great with our three cats, and with our dog, Sam. He will chase
anything and everything, and bring it back to your feet for you to throw again.
You can imagine his consternation when our tennis teacher friend brought over an
armload of tennis balls and dropped them all on the floor at once! It was
hilarious! He couldn't pick out one to chase after, so he quickly went after
them all - one at a time. He loves to swim and will fetch tennis balls at the
lake too. He likes to tear the stuffing out of stuffed toys, so we give him our
disposable ones. But he hasn't "eaten" any furniture, shoes or other non-toy
items. He's a dependable, curious boy. He also will lounge around and be calm
when it's clear that his family wants him to be calm and collected. That's
especially surprising when you see how intensely he likes to play and fetch; but
it's a nice addition to his already wonderful personality.
We
left him in a crate when we left the house for the first three days, but he has
been so trustworthy we have started leaving him with the run of the house (with
Sam) when we leave them alone nowadays. He had two early pee accidents, but
mostly because he didn't want to go outside for fear of being left there. We
think he's confident that we're going to bring him back indoors when he wants,
so he hasn't had any more accidents. He loves his walks, and usually walks right
beside us as if he had been taught to "heel." There's no pulling and we're
trying to get him to take a longer lead so he feels more freedom.
Carson is a little underweight at 63 lbs., and has a couple small spots of mange
which are being treated with vitamins, ointment and a good nutritionally
balanced diet. The vet thinks they are "stress-related" spots which will
disappear over time as he learns that he is loved. We can't imagine anyone not
loving this mid-to-high energy pup. He was neutered and had his staples out
October 24th, so he's ready to go to a forever home now.
