aap is a big, handsome fella who just came to GRR with his sister, Fasby. Gaap
is 3 years old and weighs close to 100 pounds. He is a gentle giant that doesn’t
throw his weight around. He is great with other dogs and gentle with children.
He is a laid back, easy to please, kind of dog that is content to be close to
you and be petted. Gaap will fetch the ball a few times and bring it back to
you, but he loses interest after that.
His only bad habit is countersurfing, and since he is so big, this is an easy
game for him to play. We do have lots of kids, however, so there are always
plenty of temptations in the kitchen. If we hear an odd noise in the kitchen, we
know Gaap has found himself a snack.
Gaap is housetrained and has good house manners, although he sometimes confuses
kid toys and dog toys. He can be left loose in the house or will also be good
with a baby gate. He is very well behaved.
The
last thunderstorm did not bother him much. He just sat close to me – on my foot!
– and watched the rain come down through the window.
Gaap has a charming habit of vocalizing when he wants something; like to be let
outside. He only barks a bit when outside if he hears another dog barking in the
distance.
Gaap enjoys being with people and will even try to be a 100 pound lap dog on
occasion. Since he is so large, this doesn’t work, so he winds up sitting on
your foot and leaning into your legs. He is such a lover!
Gaap
surprised me when we went outside to take photos for the web. I opened the gate
to the pool section of our yard and Gaap strolled right in and headed straight
into the pool for a nice, leisurely swim. There was no hesitation on his part
even though I hadn’t taken him to the pool part of our yard yet. Gaap really
enjoyed himself and is a very good swimmer. Of course, I got soaked when he
ambled out of the pool and shook all that water off his beautiful, thick, gold
coat.
Gaap is a wonderful family dog. He is calm and easy and just goes along with
whatever the family is doing for the day. Gaap also enjoys going for walks and
is a super car traveler, even though he takes up the whole back seat!
