Adopted

Jake

Jake's story is very sad. His family, who loved him very much, had to give him up because they were transferred to China and could not take him with them. What makes it even worse is that they had rescued Jake 4 years ago from the Greater Houston Golden Retriever Rescue.

He's 7 years old and a very gentle, sweet dog. He's a very neat eater and drinker! He takes treats very softly and never jumps up. For the most part he does not get on the furniture, but I have occasionally found him snuggled up on the sofa when nobody's looking. At night he sleeps quietly on the floor next to our bed.

He is a great retriever and can even catch a Frisbee in mid air. During the day he has the energy of a puppy and will play fetch forever, but at night after a full day of play, he gets a little stiff and is slow getting up (but then who among us would not have a hard time getting up if we played Frisbee all day?). He's absolutely crazy about the water and is a strong swimmer.

Jake was an only dog all of his life so he is not accustomed to being with other dogs. He enjoys his people and loves to hang out with his human friends. He prefers our company to that of other dogs.

On walks he appears to ignore cats too. He walks well on the long retractable leash he came with, but pulls on the short one. He just knows his limit and goes there.

He is so gently with people and loves to be hugged. I think he would make a great companion for anyone. He's very reliable in the house, he has free roam, unless it's thundering and lightening; then he likes the coziness of his crate.

This sweet guy needs a loving family who will love him and keep him forever.

Jake has turned out to be the sweetest boy. He’s the perfect no-hassle dog. If it weren’t for the fact that he wants you to throw his toy, one would hardly know he’s around. He’s been great on the leash and although he won’t play with our golden, he gets along with her quite well.

He’s been home alone during a few loud thunderstorms and has “weathered” them quite well. He gets a little anxious, but doesn’t scratch the doors or do any kind of damage. Originally we thought his arthritis was bad but now he only seems stiff after a really long day of play and swimming. All and all, he’s adjusted so well and seems to be the perfect dog and is always ready for a big hug.

He’s a good eater, trained not to get on furniture, excellent retriever, never chews on things he’s not supposed to chew on and he’s completely housebroken. He has complete run of the house all day. Do you have room in your heart and home for this handsome boy?
