Andy
Andy was found wondering the
streets of San Antonio. He must have belonged to someone who took relatively
good care of him because he is such a good dog and is in good shape. When we
picked him up from the Good Samaritan who found him, I could tell all he wanted
was a little attention and to be inside. He settled in very quickly, and gets
along
wonderfully with my two dogs. He doesn't fuss when they steal his chew or eat
out of his bowl. He went willingly into his kennel the first night, and didn't
make a peep all night. He seems to be house trained although he doesn't signal
to go out; he just goes when our dogs go. He loves to chew bones and to chase
balls. But mostly he loves to be where ever there are people. He'll lie around
for a while then come over for a few pets, if you don't notice him, he'll gently
put his paw on your lap as if to say, "I'm here, want to pet a retriever?" HE
LOVES PETS. He walks well on a leash and knows sit and sometimes stay. He
doesn't counter surf, but will hang out in the kitchen to keep the floor clean
when I'm cooking. He's very gentle and low key. He'd be great in a house with
kids and/or other dogs, or even as an only dog as long as he
has someone to love him.
Update 04/10/03:
Andy's been with us for
several weeks now and has adjusted to being indoors and in a loving home. He was
very needy at first, always wanting to be pet or touched. He's much more
comfortable now. He knows pets are always available. He still likes to be close
but doesn't have to be under foot. He no longer sleeps in a crate; he prefers to
be beside the bed or outside our door. He's learned to come get us when he needs
to go out. He's learning to leave the cat alone too. He knows not to chase-but
he's still pretty curious.
Andy's a bit of a chow hound and has gained a bit of weight-not unlike his
foster parents. He's on low cal food and an exercise program. Andy loves to walk
and reminds us when it's time for our evening jaunts. He loves to chase a ball
or go after a “lovey” toy but hasn't quite mastered the art of release.
Andy has such a good heart. He'd be perfect for someone with who visited the
elderly or a family who has children. He doesn't bark at strange dogs and
doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body. He's happy just being around people
and having a chew bone. I think he would do fine as an only dog but dose well
with our 2 dogs-he just now understands how they play and that it is OK to join
in the fun.
If you’re looking for a relatively low energy dog to share walks or slow runs,
to snuggle with while watching a movie, or a dog who gives lots of love - Andy's
THE ONE!!
