Sonny has fully recuperated from his surgery. His hormone levels are coming down and he is quickly becoming a great dog.

He is responding better to voice commands, learning to mind the leash when we go for walks and loves to cuddle while we watch TV. He has not pushed out the front door this week and will stand back when I tell him to STAY. He has decided he loves being an indoor dog.

Sonny has been watching us get ready for work and was really curious about the hair dryer. Hmmm..wonder what would happen if you blew some warm air at him? Well, it was soooo much fun that we now keep his brush right next to the hair dryer in our bathroom. I finish doing my hair and then I brush and blow dry Sonny. It has become our morning ritual. Just imagine him getting his hair brushed, the nice warm air from the blow drier making him all fluffy and being told “you look just like a show-dog!” Sunny loves to play the “show-dog” part and will not let me get out of the bathroom without his morning beauty treatment. Did I mention he has a very nice mahogany coat with a white chest star?

Sonny is completely trustworthy roaming the house by himself, as long as the food is off the counter tops. The devil will still get hold of him every once in awhile and he will check the counters for goodies. The good news is that we have left him, and the cat alone together in the house for up to 8 hours and they were just fine.

Sonny had another breakthrough last week. He decided that it was just too late to be up, so he put himself to bed in his crate with the door open. Usually we have to bribe him to get in the crate, but maybe that is because he loves a tasty treat just before bedtime. If you choose not to close his crate, I guarantee you will wake up with this sweet boy curled up in the crook of your knee or under your arm. After all, don’t all show-dogs sleep in king-sized beds?

Sonny still loves to play ball so we keep the balls put away except at play time, but even with a ball in his mouth, he is just about the best dog of the bunch. Sonny would love to be in a house full of kids or with a set of parents that are active and he will benefit from continue obedience training. But come bed time, he is a couch potato and appreciates the finer, slower things of life. Sonny is a great dog, is he THE great dog for you and your family?
Calling all boys and girls who like to play ball.. I have just the dog for you!

Meet Sonny.  A mahogany colored 2 year old male that is a ball paying fool.  As long as there is a tennis ball around, Sonny will be pushing it into your lap and waiting patiently for you to throw it.  You will get to throw a slimy wet tennis ball over and over again.  And, I can guarantee that Sonny will not be the first one to quit playing ball.  He can catch line drives, grounders and fly balls with all four feet off the ground.

We have had foster GR's for two years and we have a lot of tennis balls around.  But, for the first time, we have had to put all the balls up and only do ball playing outside and only during selected play times.  That worked great the first day.  Then Sonny found he could sneak a ball back into the house during potty breaks.  He even found balls that had been run over with the lawn mower BUT were still throw-able.  Yes, I have a ball player for you.

If you are not playing enough ball with Sonny, he will play by himself. He lets the ball roll away from him and then grabs for it.  I was working at the computer with Sonny at my feet. Good dog!  His ball (where did you find that one?) rolled under the desk and before I knew what was happening, I had a 60 lb dog squeezing behind the computer desk "Hello, Road Runner Service?  Your cable just blew right out of the wall! Yea, it must have been a power surge or something."

Once we hid all the balls in the house, we found a great, attentive, loving dog.  Sonny will curl up with you on the couch and watch TV, sleep and play with the other dogs.  He is house broken.  He does occasionally counter surf so you have to keep an eye on him.  Sonny sleeps in his kennel at night and during the day when we are out.  You have to bribe him with, guess what; a ball to go in the crate.  He sleeps through the night, but loves to get up about 6 with me and then crawl into our bed with my wife.   I don't know where he learned that?

Sonny is an owner-surrender from a Military couple recently deployed. He has been well cared for and shown a lot of love.  Sonny needs a family who will be consistent with his training.  He has a lot of confidence and is very bright.  I think he is a man's dog, but then I find him snuggled in bed with my wife so she might disagree.

Sonny is ready for a forever family.  The vets have checked him out and he has just been neutered.  He will do great with any family, but would be exceptional in a family with older children that LIKE TO PLAY BALL!
