Charlie, Mr. Happy,  is a 4 year old male who came to GRR from a family that was moving and could no longer keep him. They had taken wonderful care of him and perhaps had given him a few too many treats for his excellent behavior as he's a bit overweight (85 lbs). We now have him on a diet, which is fine with him because he prefers baby carrots over doggie treats anyway! His coat is so soft and so thick that's a little hard to tell how much of his 'bulk' is his luxurious coat and how much is the extra pounds he needs to shed.

As his name implies, Charlie is a happy fellow. He arrived with his tail wagging -- ready to please and ready to play. He loves his plush toy (see photo) and carries it around the house while trying to entice us into a little game of chase or tug. He'll also chase after the ball but prefers 'keep away' to bringing it back. He's extremely friendly -- loves kids and is teaching my 2 year old Golden a thing or two about gentlemanly behavior. Charlie follows me around the house but stops short to be sure that I'm in front of him going down the stairs or through a door way. I think if he could he'd open the door for me!

He knows "sit", "down", is crate trained and has excellent house manners and he's so willing to please. He doesn't counter surf, but he does like to watch your every move, hoping - just hoping, that perhaps a crumb will fall his way. When I shew him out, he comes right back but lays sweetly and watches. When I glance over his way his tail goes into a wag. He's always wagging his tail! 

He loves to be brushed and rubbed and stands at attention while I dry off the rain drops from his coat, or clean the mud from his paws after a walk. When he wants a little lovin' he gently lays his head on my lap and looks up at me with his beautiful brown eyes. Who could resist? And that coat is so soft -- he's like a big soft cuddly bear. He loves all people, gets along well with other dogs and is a dream around children. Charlie is as lovable as he is gorgeous.
