Adopted

Scarlet comes to GRR from the shelter in Schertz, TX.  We have no idea what she went through before she ended up at the shelter, if only she could talk.  This stunning beauty is approximately 1.5 years old and is quickly learning how great it is to be a house dog.  Scarlet gets this report from her foster family:

UPDATE 1/18/03

Scarlet lives up to her name she's sweet, sassy and petite.

She appears to have spent most of her life outside and shows signs of
physical abuse. She doesn't know how to handle affection, although she
craves it so much. It has taken her a couple of weeks to get her to
enjoy being touched. She'll now put her head in your lap and stay to
enjoy a good ear rub.

She prefers to go potty outside but doesn't know how to ask to go out if
the door is closed, we are working on this, and she's starting to get
the hang of it. She's crated during the day while we're at work; she
doesn't like to go in her crate but she settles pretty quickly. When
we're home she has run of the house, as long as we watch her closely she
doesn't get into anything she shouldn't get into.

She gets along amazingly well with our older female, who is actually
showing some motherly affection toward her. Scarlet is estimated at
between 1 and 1-1/2 years old but most people think she's a 6-month old
puppy due to her small, slim stature and cute puppy looks. Kids love her
and she loves kids. She doesn't have the weight behind her (like some
goldens we know) to knock small children over just by walking by them.

Scarlet is an incredible retriever and absolutely loves balls. She walks
great on a leash and when the door is open, makes no attempt to bolt.
She also rides great in the car, very relaxed and doesn't try to get in

the front seat. We've taken her on several hour-plus trips and she just
sits quietly looking out the window.

This healthy little darling needs so much love, and she needs a family
willing to continue her training.  She's been ignored most of her life,
but in spite of that she is good natured and playful. And as smart as
she is, she'll learn quickly. She needs a family who will have faith in
her, patience with her, time to spend with her and give her all the love
she deserves.
