Remembered

Shadow is a big, loveable guy who makes fast friends with everyone and everything--adult humans, children, cats, and other dogs included.  He is five years old, so he has a nice mixture of maturity and playfulness in his personality.  He is trustworthy roaming free in the house, although at night, he sleeps in the laundry room as he did in his previous home.  He is completely housebroken, does not chew anything unacceptable, and does not counter surf.  He enjoys "sunbathing" on the deck in the early morning.  He will approach us to play with his "baby" (sheepskin squeaky toy) when we are sitting but he does not retrieve it more than once or twice, and his favorite game is to play keep away with it.  He has never barked in the house, but we have heard him bark occasionally in the yard when he hears other people nearby.

Shadow is learning the "house rules".  He knows which rooms are not dog rooms in our home, and he does not enter them even when the doors are left open.  He is learning quickly not to jump up on people and not to put his front paws on the furniture.  He is obedient to "no" in a firm tone.  He is also learning proper leash behavior.

Shadow is a great eater, so great that he is a little overweight at 83 pounds.  After a week at our home on lo-cal food, he seems to be slimming-down, but he still has a few more pounds to go - hey who doesn't? Shadow will be a wonderful addition to any family.

05/22/2006:

Shadow went to the bridge on Monday, May 22, 2006. He was a brave and stoic boy to the end. We miss him so much and the house is very quiet. There will never be another dog like him.
