Stella came into my life in November 2002 from GRR. She was being fostered by Sharon and David Mills. It was love at first sight! She was my best friend and she loved the fact that all of my attention was on her. Everyone that met her fell in love too. I often called her Bear because of her thick golden coat that made her look big and fluffy. She loved to go on car rides and LOVED to snuggle with my sneakers. She would always search the house to find where I left my shoes and then come prancing and wimpering in the room with the "prize" shoe in her mouth. Stella and I moved from Austin to Houston and then 2 years ago we were transferred to Birmingham Alabama. This past summer, Stella's health (mainly her kidneys) started to decline. After several tests, medications, and doctor visits... within a few weeks, she could no longer walk or stand up. Stella was put to sleep on Saturday June 2, 2007. Her estimated GRR age was 8 years old at the time I adopted her and I was able to give her the best 5 1/2 years of her life! Stella would have been about 13 years old.

Stella is fitting in nicely with our other two Golden's and is very well behaved inside the house. She doesn't get on furniture and for the most part just wants her tummy rubbed or to be laying down contently next to you. She doesn't appear to have had much experience with crates and wasn't exactly happy about sleeping in one the first night, but after only about 5 minutes of whimpering, she calmed down and slept the entire night without a peep.

The Vets think she is around 8 years old but she acts and looks much younger.

Although she does seem to have trouble with stairs, but that might be due to her unfamiliarity with them and not arthritis.

Stella is not a fast eater and prefers to have a little canned food mixed into the dry but we will work on breaking her from that habit. Our other two dogs gobble up their food so putting canned into her bowl is the only way
right now to get her to eat it before the others do!

Stella knows the command "sit" and seems to understand "no" but not much else. She is such a love bug and will make someone a wonderful pet. Watch for more as we get to know her better.
