Adopted

Simon...Big ol' Simon -- he's big, he's sweet and he's come a long, long way from when we first got him in to GRR. He came by way of the San Antonio shelter and his life hadn't been good. He was very underweight, had an ear infection, eye infection and kennel cough to boot. He had fleas, tics and his coat was course and thin. He was a mess, but he didn't know it. He was just so happy and bouncy to be loved on and made over. He took his medications wonderfully and ate like he'd never eaten before. We indulged him with puppy food three times a day to bring him back to a healthy weight. He still has a way to go, and once he gets there he's really going to be a big ol' boy. His coat is already filling in and softening up day by day.

Simon is a love bug. He loves to put his paw on you to remind you that he needs more rubs and we have to remind him constantly "No Paw". Why? Well his paws are HUGE!! Big as he may be, Simon is so gentle. Treats are his fav, and he's learning to take them gently from my fingers. He's been pretty good in the house.  I'd say he doesn't counter surf, but then who am I kidding?! He's so tall he doesn't need to surf with his nose raised up -- he can see everything on the counter or table at eye level. But he's never taken a thing. He knows 'no' and he's doing great with 'sit'. We're working on 'stay' and the 'no paw'.

Simon is also very playful. He's not too fond of water but he entertains us constantly with his ball attacking antics. He loves this rubber squeaky ball that deflates with a squeak and reinflates with a whine. He cocks his head in wonder and POUNCE that ball is back in his grip with a shake and wiggle and a toss, he's off playing again. We take him out for evening strolls and he's really very good on a leash. He's friendly with people and other dogs, though he can be somewhat intimidating to the little toddlers in the neighborhood because of his size and enthusiasm to greet them with a handshake. Silly Simon. He's just a big ol' gentle love bug.
