Adopted

Jones, a two year old male, "Too Tall Jones"

When we first met "Too Tall Jones," we were greeted by a big smile, a lot of tail wagging,  and many licks, even though he had been holed up in the shelter for the past couple weeks.   He was thrilled to be leaving and immediately jumped into the back of our vehicle.  On the way home, he looked out the window, running from side to side, and stared down the people sitting behind us at the red lights as if to say, "hello, I'm out of doggy jail, do you need a medium to high energy, very lovable, occasionally goofy 2 year old? Pick me, pick me"!

Too Tall Jones seeemed an appropriate name for him...first of all, he is quite tall, and also very athletic. He loves to fetch and will bound across the yard or room to get whatever you may be throwing...even the things you may not want him to get!  He's like the kid in sixth grade who got big too fast and wasn't always sure what to do with all the long limbs. He can be clumsy and so silly to watch, and has taken a few "diggers" already on the floor when flying down our stairs. He loves to cuddle and will play for hours.  He has adopted a stuffed piglet (yes formerly belonging to a one year old child) and loves to toss it in the air and then try and catch it.

He is also slender, a little underweight, but has a healthy appetite so that problem will be resolved quickly. He looks like a dog who would excel in agilty work, he just needs some training.  He is also learning that the crate can be a nice, relaxing place, and that the occasional crate snacks and stuffed kongs aren't so bad either.

Update 08/12/02:

After 3 weeks in foster care Jonesy has decided the family life is for him.  He follows me where ever I go and is pretty good about not getting under foot.  He lays down when we're watching TV or I'm on the computer -- just likes to be in the same room with his people.  He does have his active times,  he'll get his rope and swing it aroundeven hitting himself in the head with the knotted end  He also likes to play bump a chest and get an ear with our other dog  for awhile but then settles down with his ball or chew.  His favorite room seems to be the kitchen. Not because he begs-because he doesn't, but because the tile is cool and he can watch me cook and clean up without having to move.
For being an outside dog- he's learned not to do his business in the house pretty quickly. He goes  all day when I'm gone to work without an accident, and sleeps all night without going out.  He still has limited access to the whole house, but I think will soon be able to be trustworthy.  He really wants to please and is very smart.
