Adopted

Rufus is a nine month old. Talk about a blond bombshell…. meet Rufus. This cute boy was a stray picked up by Town Lake Animal Control, they gave GRR a call and off I went to meet him. After a few minutes it was clear that he was full of love, kisses, and tail wags. He left the shelter that very day and came  home with me.

Rufus is about 9 months old. He is all puppy, but he is a smart puppy. He already knows how to sit, he’s learning down, and I think he will be easy to train. He looks at you attentively and really wants to please. The only thing that I want him to do that he HATES is going into his crate. He falls to the ground and rolls on his back, so I have to pick him up and put him inside. Once he’s inside he’s fine. He gives a couple of quite little whines then he settles down with his bone or kong toy.

Rufus needs an active home with a family who will exercise him and give him plenty of love and attention. He likes kids, other dogs and cats. He enjoys being near people and he enjoys hanging out with our three dogs. He plays hard and when he’s had enough he is ready for a nice long nap.

Rufus will also need a family who is willing to continue working with him on basic obedience. He still needs to learn not to jump (we’re working on that) and he needs to learn that the food on the kitchen counter is not necessarily left there for him.

This puppy is a delight and he will be a great dog for the right family. If you are looking for a fun loving companion Rufus would be a wonderful addition to your family.

Rufus Update

August 10, 2002

Rufus is such a sweetheart!  He’s a fun-loving puppy, yet very well mannered for his age.  He’s housebroken, loves to chew on his bones, enjoys walking and going for jogs in the neighborhood and hanging out with our family.  He gets along very well with our older golden, and loves to get her going in some good old doggy play.  We call him “Rufus the Goofus”!

We’re still working with him on jumping up on people, although he doesn’t do it much at all anymore.  He occasionally counter surfs, but has yet to capture a prize!  He’s generally content to play with our dog, follow me around the house, or lay sleeping on the floor.  He’s not into jumping on the furniture and listens better than any dog I’ve seen.  If he’s toying with getting into potential trouble of some kind, a simple “Rufus???” will stop him in his tracks.  Then, he continues to happily follow you around the house.

He loves water—jumps at the sprinklers in the yard, laps up the water from the hose as you’re watering the plants, and runs into water puddles. He has yet to jump into our pool for a swim, although he fell in once and easily made his way back to the steps.

He’s a beautiful blonde and has the prettiest little face.  He sleeps well through the night and loves to give you a little kiss on the cheek when the alarm goes off in the morning.  He still doesn’t like the crate, but it hasn’t been necessary to crate him since he stays close during the night and can be contained to parts of the house using a baby gate, if no one is home.

Rufus will be a wonderful addition to his forever family.  He gets along well with other dogs, cats, kids both young and old, and even hamsters!  While he may prefer to have a companion dog in the home, he will just as likely be great in a home where he’s the only dog.  Storms don’t appear to cause any problems for him, and he loves the sound of the lawn mower, vacuum cleaner and hair dryer!  He loves to go for runs and walks, and is a happy little fellow.  Whoever adopts Rufus is lucky indeed!
