Adopted

Darcy:

Darcy is an absolute sweetheart. The first evening we picked her up from Town Lake Animal Shelter she was a bit groggy from the spay surgery, but the next morning she bounded from her crate ready to greet the day. At first she was little unsure of this 'indoor' thing, but she's getting the hang of life in the air conditioning and she's quickly learning the house rules
(only one accident in the house). She's so pretty and gentle, and very smart! She loves to be near us and happily bounces right along side you while gently playing with your hand as you walk. She loves kids and is so appreciative of attention. Nothing pleases her more than laying on her back and having you rub her tummy. She's so relaxed with being handled that she iterally falls asleep while you brush her. She is enjoying exploring new areas of the house, but always comes when called. We're working on 'sit' but she seems to already know 'stay' and 'no'.

At first she wasn't sure what to do with the dog toys (I'm not sure this sweet girl ever had a toy). She would just nudge the toys with her nose, until she heard the toy duck 'quack' and that was all it took to get her interested. It's so cute to watch her put the duck in her mouth and carry it around the house. She's learning 'fetch' and when she's completely recovered I'm sure she'll be really good at retrieving. She once mistook my shoe for a toy, but quickly released it when told to drop it. It took some coaxing to get her to place one paw in front of the other to come down the stairs, but she got the hang of it and before we knew it she was bounding off into the yard with the grace of a gazelle. She's just a little underweight and we're still trying to figure out her eating habits. She doesn't counter surf and she's as quiet as a mouse. She sleeps in the crate at night without a peep. This little girl has a lot of love to give. Even at her young age, she's a real lady. Gentle, sweet and absolutely adorable!

Update 07/25/02:

Oh, what a puppy this little girl is! She loves to play with her doggie toys and runs like the wind in the backyard after the tennis ball. Like a flash of golden fur she bolts from one end of the yard, flys up and over the deck (what stairs?!), and WHOOSH there she goes again! She’s quite a source of entertainment.

She loves people and while on her daily walks if she spots someone in the distance she literally points at them. It’s so cute. And she’s so friendly with everyone she meets. She especially likes kids as she quickly sizes them up as her personal playmates. This can be a little overwhelming for toddlers.

Her house manners are impeccable. She’s completely housetrained – doesn’t beg, countersurf, or get on the furniture. We do need to keep our closet doors closed as she is simply overcome by the desire to chew on our shoes and laundry. But when you catch her doing this, it’s clear she knows she’s being naughty as she lays her head down on her crossed legs and looks up at you with this “I’m sorry, I just couldn’t help myself” look. Melts your heart right then and there.  She’s so willing to please and will sit on command. She’s incredibly smart and a very fast learner. She will need some work on walking on a leash. She’s really a dream.
