Adopted
Harley
is a nine month old,
With a name like
Harley you know he’s a free spirit!
His previous owners said he is nine months
old, but his size tells us that he’s probably a little over a year. Other than
size, he’s still a
puppy. Probably like Shaquille O’Neal was only a pre-schooler at six feet tall!
Harley is wonderful; full of personality; full of action; and curious as all get out. He’s smart too. He knows sit and stay, and in less than a week he’s learned to stop at intersections and wait to be told it’s okay to cross a street. He loves his walks, and doesn’t pull you around; just keeps a light tension on his leash. If we were in the market to keep a foster dog, he’d be a keeper. He’s fun, playful, a character, and kind of goofy. As an example, he will hold a toy in his mouth, “play growl,” and wag his tail at you to get you interested. All in all, the kind of dog that a family would love to have.
If he were another animal, it would probably be a mountain goat, because he loves to be on top of things – the person playing with him, the patio table, the bed, all those places we don’t want him to be. But the good news is that he learns well and we’re positive that he will become a “productive adult” after a few weeks with a forever home. He loves the outdoors, but doesn’t like to go into the back yard unless it’s time to “go.” He’s well housebroken and we haven’t had any accidents since his first day with us. He sleeps on the floor next to our bed – all night – without bothering us. The only consideration we give him is a few minutes of play with our other golden, Sam, before we settle him down.
Harley had lots of inflamed skin and his chest was almost hairless when we got him. He was diagnosed with an allergy, which manifested itself in skin irritation, all over his body. The veterinarian injected steroids and antibiotics, prescribed ten days of antibiotic capsules, and he is looking good. The inflammation is almost gone and his chest is starting to get back to normal. He tested negative for heartworms and is in great health otherwise. He is scheduled for neutering on July 13th, so will be convalescing for a couple of weeks afterwards – but adoptable during that time.
He’s a sweetheart who loves to give “kisses” and to be with you all the time. He barks playfully when he wants to have some fun with you, or another dog, if there is one. He’s full of mischief, which is consistent with being a puppy. He will kitchen counter surf if left alone and will get into the trash can if it’s left available. We think he will stop when he learns to correct those behaviors. And he will. Harley will be a great find for someone who can help him get through his brief adolescent period, because he will be a handsome, wagtail, playful, happy addition to your home.
