Dude, six years old, is a big, lanky whose name fits him
perfectly. He has a magnetic personality and a happy-go-lucky attitude.
That got him nabbed by the dog police and he landed in Town Lake animal shelter. They immediately observed he had all his original equipment, and they divested him of it before we picked him up. He still has enough hormones to be "head dog", and that, plus his size, earns him respect in our house.
He was very skinny when he came here a
little over a week ago, and he
ate and drank water as if he wouldn't get another chance. He has slowed down
some, and today, even though he weighs 85 pounds, he is still lanky, but is
looking a little sleeker. Getting used to regular meals has made him very
grateful, and he is anxious to please.
Besides
being hungry for food, he is also hungry for love, and would
like to be a lap dog. He has never climbed on the furniture, but if you sit
on the floor to play or groom him, he sits in your lap. He totally resists
being crated, but has been a gentlemen when left loose in the house in our
absence. He does like to graze the trash, so we've learned to dispose of
aromatic articles in secure containers. He is a big Kahuna!!!
He learns quickly. He did not
know "sit" when he arrived, but now he
does it for treats, and also to please us when his tail threatens to clear
the coffee table. On walks he learns commands quickly, and can "stay".
He would be a wonderful only dog, and would be good with older
children, but he is so big he might intimidate younger ones.
