Adopted

Yosemite Sam

Sam lost his home when his owners couldn't afford to pay the fine for allowing him to roam the streets.  He is a beautiful, healthy, red 2yr. old, who seems wise beyond his years.

He is surprisingly calm for a young GR. He walks well on a leash and gets along very well with other dogs.

He appears to be house trained because there ha s   been o nly one  accident. We're still trying to figure out his signal to go out- so far he just goes when the other dogs go out, and of course follows me whenever I go. Trips to the garbage don't seem to bother him- now if I can train him to take it out on his own I'd have it made.

We tried crating him at night but, although he was quiet in the crate, it was a chore to get him into it. He has access to most of the house but prefers to stay close to people. He doesn't counter surf or beg. But he will give you a look with those big brown eyes that just makes you want to share whatever you have.

Sam is a little shy in new situations, and reluctant to go anywhere without his "people" with him.  He cowers when he hears yelling and will drop to the ground if he thinks he's in trouble. We're working on building his confidence.  Lots of "pets" and "good boys"  seem to do the trick. He rarely barks and only snores when he lays on his back.

Although I have not seen Sam around children yet, with his gentle nature I  think  he would be wonderful with them.  He is curious about our cat-mostly putting his big nose where she doesn't want it, but hasn't tried to chase her.

Sam loves to carry things in his mouth.  If there's not a toy or ball handy, he'll pick up a magazine or newspaper.  He seems to know to leave shoes and clothing alone though. We're not sure if he likes water-he tolerated his bath, but kept looking at me like, "are you finished yet?"  He does enjpy being brushed and tummy rubs are his favorite.

Sam needs someone who will give him lots of TLC to bring out the playful pet he's not been allowed to be.
