Grace...Amazing Grace

Let’s not beat around the bush.  You’ve seen Graces pictures, she is beautiful but yes she does have tumors on her head.  She has Firbrosarcoma.

Fibrosarcoma is a cancerous tumor of the deep structures of the skin, specifically the fibrous connective tissue. This type of tissue normally serves to protect, support and bind together various organs. Fibrosarcomas can arise anywhere in the body, but most often affect bone. It is the third most common type of bone tumor.  Fibrosarcomas can spread or metastasize to the lungs, heart, kidneys and lymph nodes.

Does Grace have long to live?  We simply don’t know, we don’t have a crystal ball to tell us what the future has in store for her.  What we do have is the hope that someone out there will open up their heart and home to this amazing dog.

I met Grace one week ago.  A Good Samaritan noticed a beautiful blond Golden Retriever sitting in her neighbors yard Memorial Day weekend.  The neighbors had just moved in so she thought the dog belonged to them.  After seeing the dog stay in the yard for two days our Good Sam asked about her.  “No she’s not our dog, she just walked up and has been sitting here.  We’re giving her some food and water.”  The Good Sam took the dog home and began the search for her family.  After she exhausted all the possibilities she gave up on anyone ever claiming this sweet girl.  A call to GRR was made and this abandoned girl came to Gold Ribbon Rescue.  We wanted to give her a name befitting a beautiful elegant lady so we named her after Grace Kelly.

Do you want to know what makes Grace amazing?  She knows everything, yes everything!  She can perform tricks, she rolls over, she speaks, she shakes, she knows, sit, down, stay…. the list goes on.  She doesn’t get on the furniture unless she is invited, she is completely trust worthy in the house, she gets along well with the three other dogs in our home, and she loves to lay beside you with her head in your lap.  She learns quickly and she is eager to please.  She looks at you and tilts her head when you talk to her as if she wants to make sure she hears every word you say.  Now keep in mind that Grace does all of these things and she has cancer.  She is amazing because in spite of the lumpy tumors on her head, in spite of the fact that she was very likely dumped by her family because of her illness, she still loves and trusts every one she meets.

The time will come for her to leave this world.  Our wish is to give her the most amazing life possible from now until the moment she softly goes to sleep in the loving arms of her adoring human.  Are you unselfish enough to love her for the time she has left?  Can you open you heart and let Grace in?  Will it hurt when she is gone?  Yes it will.  Will you cry when you hold her in your arms as she drifts off on her journey to the Rainbow Bridge?  Yes you will and you would want it no other way.  Will you miss her smiling face?  Of course you will.  Will your life be richer for having shared your love with Grace?  Absolutely!  Will you look back on your time together and recall how wonderful it was?  Yes you will.  You will look back and say it was absolutely “Amazing.”
