Adopted
Scout
is a beautiful, well-mannered big, red seven-year-old boy who came to us a week
ago. He was shy at first and tentative about being in the house. Up until now he
was strictly an outdoor dog who slept on a concrete pad and has a few scars to
show for it. However, now that he knows he is free to just hang out inside all
day, we can tell he is in heaven. He loves being with his human pack and all the
activity, attention and milk bones that go along with being an inside dog.
Yippee!
He is a supremely stately gentleman who waits patiently at the foot of the stairs until we say ‘okay’ and then he bounds inside. He is still learning to graciously accept treats and his meals, but we have high hopes because he seems to really want to please us. He knows a lot of commands such as “wait”, “go lie down”, “stay”, “sit”, “leave it”, and is quick to learn a few new ones as they come up. He doesn’t seem to have had much experience on a leash, so he pulls quite a bit. However, he really likes to venture out and see more of his expanding world. He could stand to lose a few pounds (couldn’t we all??), but we know that regular exercise and a healthy diet will do the trick in no time.
He’s adapted to his crate very well, sleeps all night in it and stays there when we are gone. He quickly learned to ‘do his business’ outside and already has learned to stand by the door as a signal or respond if we ask if he wants to go ‘out’.
His personality continues to emerge as he adapts to his foster home. He doesn’t interact much with our 18 month-old puppy. We believe they are still working out ‘who is on first’. It is by and large a peaceful coexistence.
Scout needs many opportunities for positive human interaction, something he hasn’t had up until now. We are charmed by how gentle this big, proud boy is. He adores all the attention he gets from our two boys. He will be a wonderful addition to his ‘forever home”. Scout deserves creature comforts; a lot of attention and many hugs during the second half of his life.
