Adopted
River is a young happy boy who loves to run in the back yard with our 5 year old golden Duke. He has already mastered some commands such as sit, down and shake. He knows stay but doesn’t like to “stay for long” because he thinks he might be missing out on some excitement. He is great with children, other dogs and cats. He likes Kong toys, and sterilized bones filled with peanut butter, but his favorite activity is getting and giving love. He enjoys having his head scratched while laying his chin in you lap. He loves to give kisses and he will have to learn that not everyone wants a big wet kiss; but honestly I don’t know who could resist this handsome guy!
Update 06/03/02:
River is a happy boy.
Especially when he has something in his mouth and is being petted. River loves
to go for walks and, in fact, would like to walk either himself or my dog. Once
both are on leashes, he likes to grab his leash or hers (just to help, you
know). He gracefully surrenders whichever one he has grabbed. He pulls some on
the leash and will need more work on this.
River likes to be close to his humans--preferably in their laps. I'm working on
his climbing and jumping up on people , he
will need more training in this area. Whenever I am walking around in the
house, River is right behind me, with whatever toy he is carrying brushing the
backs of my knees. River knows sit
and down and stay (a little). He loves interacting with and pleasing people. He
likes to spend time playing outside
and enjoys it even more if his
human is outside with him.
River plays well with my same-age golden mix. If he wants to play but she
doesn't, he'll stand about three feet away from her and bark loudly. This is
the only context in which I've heard him bark. He is game whenever she wants to
play. River loves toys-balls, soft toys, bones, and disks. He likes to
retrieve whatever is thrown for him. River likes to tease my dog by grabbing a
toy and walking past her. If he can't decide which toy he wants, he'll just
pick up two.
River sleeps the night through in his crate. He is also crated when I am gone.
River has the run of the house when I am home. His house manners have been
quite good. He is excited after a separation, but settles down fairly quickly.
If I'm taking a nap he'll take one too-under the bed. He had some potty
accidents the first few days he was here--none since. He will probably need
reinforcement on potty training. River may have just needed time to adapt to
all of the changes in his life-he was picked up as a stray in a vacant lot by
some kind people who kept him for a few days while trying hard, but
unsuccessfully, to find his home. He then came to GRR and then to me.
This guy is so loving and he will have so many kisses for his forever family.
As an added plus, River is an absolutely gorgeous guy whose pictures do not do
him justice.
