King

The last few months with King have been very joyful and rewarding!  King is a sweet gentleman who is eager to please and craves affection.  When King first arrived at my home he had a real constrained look on his face and seemed to be squinting from stress.  King has really come out of his shell and now wears a smile on his face all the time.  It is hard to explain, he just has a happy easy going pleasant look.  I guess it just took him awhile to trust himself to love and be loved.

If you have been trying to decide between a Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever, King may be the answer.  I think King is a mix of the two breeds and he has a beautiful coat, which doesn’t shed as much as my Goldens.

King’s enthusiasm for life really shines through when I get home from work, around mealtime, or most of all when it is time for a walk.  King loves to go on walks – you can almost see the electricity crackling on his coat in anticipation.  On our walks I have noticed that he is very interested in cats and I think he would like the opportunity to chase one.

King was deprived of affection for so long, that now he craves as much as he can get and will half jump in your lap to love on you.   He has also developed quite a lot of vocal sounds to express himself.  King will play with other dogs when they initiate play, will sometimes chew on a nylabone, and really luxuriates in his human companionship.  I think King would love to have a forever home where there is a stay at home companion for him to be near.

King’s previous owners took little interest in him leaving him tied up in their backyard.  As a result he has separation anxiety and fears his beloved owner may never return.  I currently crate him when I leave home.  He has over-come a great deal of his fear since I started fostering him and he now enters his crate willingly when I leave.  I think that over time he will be totally trustworthy in the house as the fear that you may not come back is still there but fading.  He rarely has nightmares now and sleeps through the night.

I have had six foster dogs this year and King will certainly be the hardest to let go, but I am excited for him to find a loving forever home where he can be the top dog – someone will be very lucky when their lives intertwine.
