Cinderella...
Once upon a time in a land far away lived a little dog named Cinderella. Cinderella was alone in the world. Each day she walked the streets and fields hoping to find something to eat and each night she searched for a safe place to sleep. Cinderella knew she needed to find a place to call home because she was soon to give birth to puppies. Cinderella searched and searched and finally settled into a drainpipe in a landfill in Kingsville, and that is where her puppies were born. She was worried that the landfill workers would discover her and make her leave. To her surprise the men didn’t want her to leave. They wanted to help her.
As the weeks went by her puppies grew bigger and stronger. They needed more food then she could provide, and they needed a safe place to run and play. The workers at the landfill found homes for some of the puppies and then they called Kingsville Animal Rescue hoping that the shelter would take Cinderella and her puppies in. But there was no room at the shelter. Cinderella was again worried that she and her remaining 3 puppies would have to start walking the streets searching for food, shelter and love. Luckily for Cinderella a wonderful lady from the Kingsville Rescue contacted GRR. As Cinderella listened to the lady from the shelter she learned that GRR helps golden retrievers find new homes. “Oh no,” Cinderella thought “I’m not all golden, but I have a golden heart and my puppies, well, they’re not goldens either, but I’ve tried to teach them to love everyone. Please let the GRR people like us.”
Arrangements were made with a Good Samaritan who volunteered to drive the little family to San Antonio where they would meet a family of GRR volunteers. Once they arrived in San Antonio they met the GRR family and soon all of Cinderella’s fears were put to rest. The GRR family loved her and told her she would never be alone again. They loaded up their car and headed to Austin. As the miles rolled by Cinderella fell asleep and dreamed of living inside a warm house, with someone to love, with good food to eat every day, and with someone to help her care for her puppies until they were ready to live with families of their own. She felt the car slow to a stop and reluctantly she opened her eyes.
The GRR family and their two little girls took Cinderella and the puppies out of the car; they hugged them and kissed them and told them goodbye. And after a long day of traveling, Cinderella and her little family found themselves safely inside their foster home. Cinderella couldn’t believe it they were going to get to sleep inside and her foster mom even gave her her own bed to sleep in. The children at her foster home loved the puppies and immediately began helping Cinderella take care of them. For the first time in her life Cinderella went to sleep without a care in the world. Her dreams were filled with images of all the kind people who helped her find her way to Gold Ribbon Rescue and visions of the forever home that would soon be hers.
