Subject: #02-030 Sadie Ann  sad news

Very sad news about #02-030, Sadie Ann who was adopted by Max Ploeger. Yesterday, Sadie's vet determined that Sadie's lungs were full of cancer, a very rare kind...in 25 years, Sadie's vet had only seen 6 cases. During the night last night, Sadie died at home.

What a shock. Sadie had always been extremely healthy since her adoption, and she was only ~age 9. Terrie Carlson was Sadie's foster mom back in 2002...Terrie, thank you for taking care of her back then.

Max has adopted several senior Goldens from GRR: Bailey, Curly Joe, Sadie Ann, # 02-075 Dutch who died in August '06; and most recently, #06-089 Avery. Such a shock that Avery is the only one still alive.

Max, you have loved and lost some wonderful friends. Thank you for giving all those dogs happiness & fun during their senior years. Every time Gary & I spot you & your Goldens driving to the post office, or on a walk, we feel happy. We sure are sorry that Sadie is gone.

Sadie is a 4 ½ year old bundle of joy. She came from a family that had to move and could not take her with them.

She has been with us for about a week after going through heartworm treatment.  She waltzed right in to our house as if we were old friends.  This is one happy girl.  She had an instant friend in our 8-year-old male golden.  She is very adaptable.  She has a few quirks that add to her charm.  She is a talker.  She will look at you with such an intense look and bark as if she is really trying to talk to you.  She constantly, I mean constantly, has a ball in her mouth and she will follow you around as if she is saying “Please play with me!” but when you try to get the ball she will not give it to you for anything!  That’s the fun part! When she walks around with that ball in her mouth,  her tail’s a wagging and her whole body wiggles back and forth.  We finally figured out that she doesn’t want to retrieve she just wants you to try to take the ball from her.  Since we have to keep her calm because of her heartworm treatment we really have not been able to throw the ball so at this point we are not totally sure if she enjoys chasing the ball or not.  She plays a little game by herself which is really cute.  She manages to roll the ball under the couch and then she tries to get it out.  This is great fun for her.  If she can’t get it out I look under the couch and she is right beside me, her little head right beside mine looking for that ball.  One time I looked under the chair and saw her little face on the other side looking right at me.

Sadie Ann LOVES to ride in the car.  I have never seen a dog enjoy it as much as she does.  We have not been able to take her for a walk but just going from the house to the car she does pull on the leash but this may just be from her excitement about going for a ride.

Sadie has a very thick, beautiful coat which will require frequent brushing.  She is very well behaved while being brushed and seems to enjoy it.  She is also very good while having her ears cleaned.

Sadie Ann has perfect house manners.  She does like to sleep on the furniture but when told to get down she does.  She can be independent at times.  She loves attention but does not need it all the time.  A lot of times we will not know where she is and she will be off in another room snoozing.  She is very happy, confident and playful.  I think she would do very well in a home with other dogs but would also be fine as an only dog.  I also think that she needs a family that would have time to play with her and enjoy all the fun she has to offer!
