Adopted
Little
Bear
is a five month old pup rescued from Town Lake Animal Center in Austin. Seems he
appeared there on Valentines Day in a box with an assortment of puppies. He
luckily found his way to Gold Ribbon Rescue and a foster home. Since the
Olympics were the news of the week, Apollo seemed a fine name! What a delightful
little guy. He is so busy learning about life. Took him 3 full days of hard work
to finally catch that tail!! Weighing in at just 5 lb. 6 oz. he’s rather small
but he makes up for his size with personality.
We think he’s a very old fashioned boy. Does not appear to approve of computers and email correspondence – that must explain his desire to chew up all the wires. However, he also does not approve of the printed media – the newspaper must be destroyed! We refuse to give in to his values because the thought of him with a quill pen and a bottle of ink is a little more than we can imagine!
For two or three days our forever family of Goldens and cats thought he was just a fuzzy spring that had been discarded in their midst. Then Apollo began slowing down a little and our boys and girls got a good look at him and discovered that he’s a PUPPY. They have their own name for him: T. D. Pib (stands for Temporary Dog – Pain in the Butt).
We look forward to getting to know Apollo’s personality. It could be that he’s overwhelmed by the new sights, sounds, people, Goldens, cats, house, yard, the whole deal. Or, it could be that he will be a high energy Golden requiring much patience and much direction. Time will tell. In the meantime, we will love, hug and pet him, giving him a chance to show his stuff.
update 04/18/02:
To summarize Apollo, nicknamed Lil Bear's, personality he has these wonderful traits: he likes other dogs, is not afraid of cats or any type of Hoover machine, is crate trained but not yet 100% housebroken, LOVES his toys and in the true Golden fashion, loves to sit on your feet. He plays with Sage our son but would be better for him to go to a home with a child older than six. He is very loving and he waits patiently for his biscuits. He is well socialized and people are quite taken with him. He walks pretty good on a leash and loves to greet us at the door when one of us comes home. Pretty much an all around good guy. He is proud of sticks he has found outside although he cannot figure out why he can't bring them inside to chew! I think he is better than your AVERAGE puppy but I could be biased. He will make any loving family a loving pet in return!
Update 04/25/03:
Hi, my name is Little Bear. It used to be Apollo but because of my cute bear-like face it has been changed. I am growing so fast people hardly recognize me. I have red hair which is easy to care for because I'm like a field retriever. My foster family has been so good in house training me that now I have the run of the house when they are home. When they are gone I am of course crated. I'm always anxious to go for walks which by the way I do very well in not pulling. I sit quietly and wait my turn for a biscuit. I'm a good eater. Chicken is my favorite as I cannot tolerate lamb. I LOVE my toys-balls and squeaky toys. I used to be wild, not any more. After all, I am going into my teens! When I'm through playing I like lying on the tile floor for a quick snooze- I don't want to miss anything. I'm used to baths and being properly groomed. I am not afraid of much. Not vacuums, thunder, lawn mower, tractor or hissing cat sounds. I like children as I have a 6 year old little boy who loves to play with me. By now I am used to computers and cords are no longer a thrill for me. There is always something to see or do in my cool foster home because it's not usually too quiet here. I take a nap in the morning after breakfast and one after lunch and if it is a really long day I'll shoot for a third nap. My manners are pretty good because I like pleasing my family. I sit and stay and come when I'm called. I'm looking forward to meeting my future family as everyone will be a winner then.
They will wonder why they didn't find me sooner. Even tho' my foster family is sooper, it is time to move on to a family I can call "mine". I love hugs and kisses and can kiss back with the best of 'em.
I hope to meet you soon as I am well socialized. I do a lot of running around with my foster mom and brother. See y'all later!
