Adopted
Major...
February 14, 2002 was scheduled to be the last
day of Major's young life. We received
a call on the hotline from a desperate worker at a shelter outside of Austin.
She called and told us the story of the
sweet, young male who had been at the shelter for 7 days and today would be his
last. He was set to be euthanized at 4 p.m. THAT afternoon.
The shelter was overcrowded and a holiday weekend was
coming. She wanted to know if there was anything we could do to help him.
Time was slipping away for Major and the race to beat the clock began.
A GRR volunteer rushed out of town and was able to save Major during his last hour. Upon arrival at the shelter, we were introduced to the happy guy. He trotted out of his pen and did a twirly dance when he spied the leash. He was so excited to go outside and ready for a walk. You could almost see his face say “I’m FREE!!!” Little did he know that in less than an hour he had been scheduled to take his last walk. Instead, he will get to take many walks and find a family who will love him forever. He happily jumped into the Expedition and settled down for the drive to his new destiny.
Once he arrived in Austin, he rushed out of the car and over to greet my 5 and 3 year old kids. His tail was wagging and I KNOW he was smiling. He joyfully raced around the backyard and let everyone take turns petting him. It was hard to believe that this happy guy in our backyard had come so close to taking his last breath.
Major is a happy go lucky dog. He is a 3 year old Golden Retriever with a slight touch of some mix. He has a long gorgeous coat and his personality is definitely ALL Golden. This guy loves to be the center of attention and especially loves to snuggle. Major has many cute characteristics. He likes to cross his front paws when he lays down, he can sit up and he does the most adorable dance when he gets excited. He is a very nice housedog and settles down right away. He seems to know exactly how he is supposed to act inside. He is getting along well with our 3 other Goldens and is a doll with our kids. He knows sit, down, shake and responds well to no. Best news is that he is already housebroken!
We try not to think about how Major almost didn’t escape his ill fated sentence. For now we just sit back and watch him bounce around with our other goofy Goldens and wait for his perfect family to adopt him. We know it won’t be hard to fall head over heels in love with this guy. We are delighted he is fostering at our house. Happy Valentine’s Day, Major. We love you already!
