Trooper is age 2, and comes to us straight off the streets of San Antonio.  He is a good looking red male around two years old with the most beautiful face. 

Trooper came into GRR somewhat of a mess.  He was heartworm and hookworm positive, needed neutering, extremely dirty, and extremely underweight. He had been on his own for a while.  However, he is responding very well to all of his medications so far.

Trooper’s name signifies his personality perfectly.  This boy, although constantly being bombarded by surgeries and medicine, is just the sweetest dog in the whole world.  He still has a little of the goofy puppy nature in him, as well as some of the excitability.  He loves his humans!!!  He can’t get enough pets, food, treats, love, and attention.  He was not housebroken when he came, but has not had an accident in over a week. He is getting used to the idea of crating, although he still give a few barks to let us know that he is not too happy about it. 

Trooper is pretty good on a leash.  He does really well, except he will lunge to try and greet the dog across the street or the cat in the next driveway.  I am guessing that he probably wouldn’t do well in a house with a cat or at least it would take a few bats on the nose by the cat to get him to behave.  Unfortunately we haven’t had the chance to see him around children, but have no doubt that he would be terrific with them. 

 He is a bit of a counter-surfer, but has made strides so far in learning “no” and “enough..”  He is very vocal, meaning that he groans, snorts, and huffs around the house. He comes always when you call, doesn’t beg at the table, and has learned sit, although he has small problems listening when he is excited.  He would be a perfect dog for a young boy or girl looking for a sweet dog to love and train.   He does really well with other dogs, and would fit well in any family!  You can’t help but love this little guy!!
