Shadow is age four, Yes, Shadow really does look like his pictures. He has movie star looks: Brad Pitt with a long furry nose. He also has the classic Golden Retriever personality: Happy, energetic, loving, responsive, gentle, and intelligent. He is good with other dogs, good with children, reliably house trained, and stays off the furniture. Shadow has it all. He is what people want when they think of a Golden Retriever. In all truthfulness, we would ask to adopt him ourselves if we did not already have a dog.

But you need to be warned: This is no lap dog. He is a big dog in the prime of life and health, and needs lots of exercise. We take him on two walks every day and he still has excess energy. He wants to carry things in his mouth (that is what retrievers do!) and will pick up anything on the floor, returning it to you soggy wet. He was deprived of attention and this has left him with a huge hole in his heart that can only be plugged with much love and many pats. He will follow you everywhere and will lay his head and his paw on your lap as soon as you sit down. He was a backyard dog and still needs work on some of his social skills. He is an exceptionally picky eater -- also a legacy of the back yard -- although he is rapidly learning to eat properly. Shadow will be the prince of dogs, but only if you let him into your home and your heart, and give him the attention and training he needs and wants.
