Adopted

Hazel is 15 years old, which is quite ancient for a Golden Retriever.  We wonder why she was found stray with no collar or tags, and why her owners never came forward.    Interestingly, Hazel is in quite good shape.  She is able to get up & down with no problem, she goes for walks, she likes car rides.  Hazel has many lumps & bumps called lypomas, which are pockets of fat under the skin & are typical for Old Goldies.  She is a chubby gal who is currently dieting (boo hoo!).  We are working to cure a nasty ear infection, which is the likely cause of the paralysis on one side of her face (she gets along just fine).  Hazel is surprisingly healthy, and we expect her to be beautiful after 6 months of quality food & care.

Hazel will make some lucky family a calm & appreciative companion.  She’s the kind of girl who won’t mind if you go to work during the day.  She will be quite comfortable loose in the house, taking naps or watching soap operas.  When you arrive home, she’ll give you a lopsided grin & ask how your day went.  She’ll watch as you cook supper, then take you for a jaunty walk around the block.  Her preferred evening activity would include cuddling & tummy rubs.

Notes from Hazel’s first foster mother…

Hazel has been a lovely houseguest.  She naps a lot.  She gets along with all seven of the other Golden Retrievers.  She can’t see or hear very well, so I clap my hand against my leg & call her name to get her attention.  I use broad gestures & brightly lit rooms to help her see more easily.  Hazel adores being rubbed & massaged.  She is good when I clean her ears.  She delights in eating bites of healthy people food.  Hazel appears to be leash trained & likes going for walks.  She needs encouragement to follow us from room to room.  She is trustworthy loose in the house & does not need to be crated.  She sleeps all night long in our bedroom.  She is totally housetrained, with no accidents.  Hazel was good in the bath tub & was thrilled to be clean.  She enjoys being groomed.  She likes to wear a pretty bandana around her neck.
