Adopted
Elvis
II is 1½ years old
and comes to us from the Seguin shelter along with his pals Frankie and Miracle.
We suspect the trio was to be used for breeding purposes however, they
chased the resident goats. That
practice landed them at the local shelter and GRR was called.
The paperwork the owners filled out when turning them into the shelter
said the trio was good with children but they chase goats and cats.
The threesome will NOT be placed together; all are available for adoption
separately. They are doing
wonderfully in separate foster homes. They
are enjoying not having to compete with their pals for time and affection.
Elvis #2 is a sweet, happy boy with a twinkle in
his eye. Very clam and polite for
his age, he doesn’t jump up but does need some work on the leash.
He is fostering with Any Dog Can to get some basic manners before moving
to his new forever home. Watch for more as we get to know him better.
06/30/01: Just a note to let you guys know Elvis2 is doing well. I taught him to sit for petting, so now he comes and sits in front of me to get petted. He is a really cool dog, very funny. He has a new routine in the night when I go out for their final let-out. Everyone rushes out the door but Elvis -- he stays in his crate. Then, when everyone is out, he comes out and follows me around while I swap blankets; fill water buckets, sweep and stuff. He likes the time with me. The one issue we still need to work on is house manners - he will still steal food on the coffee table or counter but he is totally housebroken. Everything else is great. Stays at door, walks on leash wonderfully, sits, downs, shakes and does NOT jump on you. He is a great dog and will make a wonderful pet.
07/16/01 update:
Just wanted to let y'all know that Elvis had a wonderful weekend full of new experiences.
Since we have only had Elvis a week, we were a little apprehensive about taking him on the road, but we all packed our things and headed for Houston Friday night. Elvis took his hedge hog and a couple of his favorite squeaky balls and the baby gate. Elvis travels fine. He does not sleep through the whole thing like some of the other dogs, but sits up and watches for critters along the road side.Very attentive. In Houston, he walked right up to Paddy, our Daughter's Golden, introduced himself and started playing like old friends. Elvis and Paddy slept right next to our bed all night. First night out of the crate and we had no problems.
Saturday was a big day with
lots of running, playing, following the people around and getting to meet new
friends. Then Saturday night we had a party with kids, and lots of
commotion. Paddy and Elvis spent dinner time in behind the baby gate just
to stay out from under foot, but then they got to ruff-house some
more. Oh boy. Sunday, Paddy and Elvis went for a swim in the
pond. Yes, Elvis can swim and really had a great time. Even the bath
after was fun. Who said Elvis chased cats? There were two house cats
around all weekend. One laid on the middle of the coffee table most of the
afternoon, nose to nose with Elvis. No big deal at all. But Elvis
did come back with a hole in the top of his head so he must have pushed one of
the cats a little too far, but that is just another learning experience.
Back in Austin after a looong
weekend. Elvis is laying here dead tired but whining because now we are so
boring.Anybody interested in this young Golden will have no problem with his
social skills, travel arrangements or busy life styles. He fits right in
to it
all.
More adventures to follow.
