Adopted

Inky, one of Heidi's female puppies was born on May 20th.

Inky Update 10/15/01

In this foster home...weighing in at 33lbs ( last week) at only 4months old, the one the only "Inky!" She's sweet, smart and walks like a dream on a leash! Loves a bath and a nice big pillow to sleep on in her crate. Inky can sit on command and listens the first time she is corrected. Although sometimes shy and cautious at new noises and surrounding it doesn't take her long to cuddle up and give thousands of kisses in exchange for belly rubbing.

Inky plays well with other dogs, not sure about cats yet but we will find one to see what she thinks, she is very loving with children, gentle and patient. Inky eats well and cleans her bowl, she is housebroken and crate trained and takes treats gently from hands. She likes to run and play with her two foster brothers and steal toys from them too!!! We can tell she is becoming more comfortable and secure with herself and others, as days go by her confidence shines through, we are very proud of her progress since she has been with us. Inky is very laid back and easy going for a 4 month old puppy.

Inky Update 9/8/01

Inky may be petite, but she sure is feisty. She thinks nothing of pouncing on her big brother and tackling and biting him. She also is a little devil when it comes to stealing his treats for "good potty". She knows that as soon as I say "good potty" to her outside, she comes running to me for a treat, so I have to be careful not to say it until she's done, otherwise she won't finish. In quiet moments, Inky loves to cuddle and be held. She has the sweetest little face and is an excellent "sitter".

Inky is a very smart and brave puppy for beginning her life as the smallest of 10 puppies.  I guess she learned survival skills that have served her pretty well as she's grown.  She is almost 4 months old and somewhat smaller than many of the other pups, but she is a scrapper and manages to get some of the other dog's treats as well as her own.  She just dives into the fray of dogs and usually comes out with more than she had going in.  She also has the ability to convince the other pup to do something she knows not to and when caught I swear her head slowly looks over toward the other puppy seeming to say, "he started it!"

She is very loving and sweet at times, while rough and tumble at other times.  She goes in her crate easily and settles in without a peep until she hears the rest of the house getting up.  Then she lets out a few peeps to be sure she's not left behind.

She is housebroken and will go to the door to make you aware of her needs.  She races around the yard like a streak of lightening, tumbling and running with the other pup and big dogs.  She will definitely need to be in a household where there's time and attention just for her, as she loves to be talked to and stroked when she comes to you.

She's an avid reader (or least likes to look at and sometimes remove the covers of magazines).  She knows exactly when she's been caught, but doesn't surrender - just runs faster to the safety of the kitchen table or one of the recliners.  She can be very elusive when you reach out for her; one minute she's there and then she's gone.  Inky will make a wonderful pet for the right family.  She craves love and affection and seems to really thrive on new experiences.

The Black Gold Litter was born 5/20/01 to Heidi. Heidi arrived in the last week of her pregnancy and it was far too late to spay her. Heidi's former owner told us the father is a Chocolate Lab.

The pups have been highly socialized with other dogs, children of all ages and adults. They are amazingly healthy and happy. The Lab/Golden Retriever cross is a great mix often deliberately bred for Service & Seeing Eye dogs. The cross breeding produces what is called “Hybrid Vigor” which means they should not inherit any of the typical purebred genetic tendencies (health problems) of either Labs or Golden Retrievers. In all actuality, they should be healthier and heartier than their purebred ancestors who have been so tightly inbred.

If you are interested in adopting one of the pups, please review the puppy section on our website to determine if a puppy is right for you and then fill out an adoption application ASAP. Each pup will be placed through the normal adoptive procedures of GRR.
