Adopted
Ebony, one of Heidi's
female puppies was born on May 20th.
Update 07/30/01:
Well, where do I start. Life with Ebony (Ebby for short) has been filled with adventure, triumphs, and daily kudos. Her first day with us she was introduced to her 2 other brothers, one at a time and she had no idea what these big golden things were, she ran under the truck and hid behind the wheels!!! So, with a little coaxing and treats she decided to venture out and get with the program. Within days Ebby became "queen" of the ottoman, yes, my dogs have their own ottoman to share. She started not feeling very well after a few days and we took her to the vet and she had a virus, so with extra TLC, lots of sleep and IV fluid and special food, she was soon on her way to recovery. Now she is raring to go! Ebby is sweet, loving, smart and very independent, she rolls over and you come to her to rub her belly! Potty training is going very well, the past 2-days she has been going to the front door/back door and tugging on the leashes that are hanging on a hook and we let her out and she goes potty!!! She comes in when done and proudly sits by the treat jar and awaits her cookie! She gently takes the cookie from your fingers. Play time with her brothers is almost constant but it makes for longer naptimes. Our 10month old golden is very gentle and takes a lot of abuse from those sharp teeth. Yesterday Ebby mastered the stairs to our 2nd floor, oh what fun, now we have to gate the stairs for all of our safety. Ebby is eating well, sleeping thru the nights! (thank-you) and has fun filled days, we truly enjoy her!! She will make a super dog for one lucky family.
The Black Gold Litter was born 5/20/01 to Heidi. Heidi arrived in the last week of her pregnancy and it was far too late to spay her. Heidi's former owner told us the father is a Chocolate Lab.
The pups have been highly socialized with other dogs, children of all ages and adults. They are amazingly healthy and happy. The Lab/Golden Retriever cross is a great mix often deliberately bred for Service & Seeing Eye dogs. The cross breeding produces what is called “Hybrid Vigor” which means they should not inherit any of the typical purebred genetic tendencies (health problems) of either Labs or Golden Retrievers. In all actuality, they should be healthier and heartier than their purebred ancestors who have been so tightly inbred.
If you are interested in adopting one of the pups, please review the
puppy section on our website to determine if a puppy is right for you and then fill out an adoption application ASAP. Each pup will be placed through the normal adoptive procedures of GRR.5/21/01 - Update
Heidi and her "very dark chocolate" pups are doing fine according to their vet check. Heidi is a great mother and loves her babes. We proudly announce the debut of the "Black Gold Litter", the first litter ever born in care here at GRR.
There are 6 girls and 4 boys:
Coal, Ebony, Jet, Pitch, Licorice, Pepper, Lava, Onyx, Fudge & Inky.6/1/01- Update
All are doing well and getting bigger everyday. They are cute little butterballs who now weigh between 2-3 pounds. Their eyes should be opening shortly. Heidi is doing great and is the perfect Mommy to her brood.
6/11/01 Update
They are now three weeks old and just had their first dinner of “puppy gruel” They enjoyed it but what a mess! Their eyes are open, they are learning to walk (wobbling) and they are quite cute!
6/30/01 Update
They are all quite a handful they are learning to run and tumble. It’s hard to keep track of ten at once. They are all getting big, fat and sassy. Each is starting to develop their own personality and characteristics.
7/8/01 Update-
Well they are Seven weeks old now and getting cute as can be. They already carry tennis balls around in their mouths and have learned to swim! They all love the water and show no fear of it. They get in the shallow area of the pool (supervised of course) and dog paddle around to their hearts content. They also love the baby pool that was originally their whelping box. It has now become their private little water park in the afternoons. They get bigger and funnier everyday. They have lots of puppy antics and love to romp and play. Their personalities are starting to emerge, and it's great to watch them grow and change each day.
