Adopted
Scout is a two-year-old female who came to GRR from San Antonio, where she was found as a stray. She is a pretty, dark girl with beautiful, expressive eyes. She’s a bit over 60 pounds, although she could stand to gain five pounds or so. Her
coat is fairly short now but I suspect it will grow much longer since her tail and neck are full.
Scout has been with us for two weeks now. Once she got over her initial anxiety, she settled down and has become a wonderful girl. She loves people, the more people the better, men, women, old folks, young folks, even active, shrieking toddlers. The
five-year-old girl next door took Scout for a walk on a leash -- or maybe it was the other way around. Whatever; they were both grinning. Scout gets along fine with my old Golden, Woody, and does fine with other dogs when we go for walks. She also loves cats but, unfortunately, as in "Yum,
a cat!" If you have cats, this dog is not for you.
Scout is energetic and enthusiastic. She jogs with me, two miles with temperatures in the high 80s, and is unfazed -- wish I could say the same. She is crazy about water. We took her swimming in Lake Austin at the end of a long leash and she stayed in the
water for more than half an hour, swimming continuously, never touching bottom. Quite a performance. Want to take a bath with a dog? Here's your chance! Scout has to be shut out of the bathroom when humans take a bath or she will jump in with them.
Is that the voice of experience? Yep. We are thinking of changing her name to Wanda, as in "A Fish Named...."
Scout is very sensitive to our moods. When we are active, she wants to be active too; and when we want some quiet time, she relaxes and dozes -- with an occasional nose-nudge asking for pats. We are doing some desultory obedience training: Sit, stay, heel, come, and the ever useful "That's enough".
Hmmm, what else? She bonded to us in just a couple of days and is lying on the floor, asleep, under my chair as I write this. She is fully and reliably house trained, does not jump onto furniture (except for the bed; baaaad foster parents), and has never chewed on anything but bones and toys. Scout has been spayed. She is heartworm positive and will have heartworm treatment soon. She is ready for her new and forever loving home!View Pictures Here
