Desi is approximately 14 months old.  She is a pretty small red gal who’s already had 2 litters of puppies.  Her previous owners were moving and could no longer care for her.  Here’s her report from her 1^st day in foster care:

“Desi is a sweet little thing.   They named her Desilu because with her red coat, they wanted to call her Lucy, for Lucille Ball.  There was dissention in the family and they settled on Desilu.  (TV Production Company for L. Ball and Desi Arnez.)  Desi is active but not overly so.  She does show potential for being an escape artist.  In her previous home, she was known for climbing over the 4-foot fence to visit her canine neighbor next door so she’ll need soemone with a 6-foot fence.  In our yard, she inspected every square inch of it with her nose to the ground.  

I was impressed though, because she sat at the gate very nicely when it was time to go back into the house.  Desi is very interested in the pool, but only waded a little in the shallow area.  She looked as if she was almost ready to take the big plunge.  The crate is a new experience for her and she spent the first several minutes tonight checking it very thoroughly for ways of escape.   As I was petting her in the crate, trying to comfort her, she laid her head so heavily in my hand that I got tired holding her head up and had to rest my hand on the ground.  She left her head in my hand and really enjoyed the petting and words of comfort.  She is sound asleep now in her crate.  Desi is a doll and we are looking forward to morning to see what other fun things we can do together.”

Desilu is doing fantastic after several weeks in foster care! We've spent lots of time boosting her self-confidence with daily grooming and lots of love. Desi loves to be brushed! She will sit quietly while you brush her, clip her nails, and even while you clean her ears! She is super sweet, gentle, & kind. She is a glutton for affection and demands it frequently. If we are petting our other Golden, she will stick her muzzle under our hands . "Pay more attention to me, please!" Desilu visited a third grade class, and she had a ball! She went from child to child and got love from each of them. We just got a kitten, and she has been very inquisitive about it. She treats it like a puppy, licks and nose nudges. Desi's favorite things to do are take walks and ride in the car. If you get out her leash and say "Walk," she goes absolutely bonkers! She does pull a little while walking but not hard, and she is an angel in the car. She just sits quietly in the back with her nose out the window. Desi has clearly been allowed on the couch since she is a frequent furniture visitor (we do allow the dogs in the bed in the morning). She would need a gentle hand to break her of this habit. She is super sensitive to scolding and needs a patient, calm hand in the training process. Desi would be fantastic with a family with children! She would work well either with or without another dog companion. She is very patient with our 8 month old Golden, even when he drives her crazy! Desi is just looking for a family that will give her all the love and attention this sweet little lady deserves!
