Scout...Who
says it's only Tiggers that bounce! Hi, my name is Scout. I'm one
and a half years old (can't quite figure out how to show a half with mypaw) and
I'm just a sweet, silly, wiggley, energetic goofball with lots of love to
give. I've spent a lot of my time outside but I'm aware of some of the wonders
of what an indoor life offers - especially the kitchen and snoozing in a warm
cozy spot. I'm learning that hopping up on furniture is a no-no (how come? how
come?). And
that it's not polite to poke my nose into what's cooking on the stove (just
checking if the humans put enough garlic in the dish) or left on the counter
(just making sure it's not getting dusty, I swear). I
know some basic commands, like sit, especially if you're holding something with
that ooey-gooey oh so good peanut butter stuff on it. Did I tell you that my
most favorite thing in the world, other than peanut butter, is a tennis ball?
I can fetch a tennis ball till the cows come home! And I love walks,
especially long hikes. Mom says I'm pretty good on a leash, but I still need a
little more work. I get along well with cats and other dogs and I love
children. I've got lots of hugs and kisses to offer my forever home!
update 01/20/01:
Scout is
definitely an indoor dog...he only goes outside to do his business or to be with
us. We have an old couch in the kids' playroom, and we've caught him sleeping on
the couch at night. He's too cute...he even props his head on the throw pillow.
The kids made him a dog bed out of their old nap mats, and he likes to lie down
on that too. Scout will stand at the back door patiently and wait for someone to
notice him if needs to go outside. We have some jingle bells leftover from
Christmas
on our doorknob leading into our back yard, and Scout will nudge them with his
nose to let us know he needs to go out if we haven't seen him yet. Then he lets
out a single quick bark when he's ready to come back inside. He's completely
indifferent to our three cats, too. They get along fine, and even share the same
water dish!
We're still feeding him one cup of Nutro Senior twice a day...our vet says that is fine for him. We had our vet perform a "senior wellness" exam on Scout in December, and he passed every test with flying colors. We've been giving Scout his Thyroid medication regularly, and make up a check-off sheet for each day to keep track of the two daily doses. We also took him to our groomer and got him a "haircut". Nothing major...we just had them trim up his coast all over just a little bit. We usually brush him every day, and he loves it. I try to take him for a walk in the neighborhood every day for 15-30 minutes, and he wags his tail the whole time we're out. When he sees another dog on walk with its owner, he usually just looks straight ahead and ignores it.
Scout loves to ride in the car, so we take him with us almost everywhere we go. He does great in the car, but for some reason he always barks when he sees a cement truck...any ideas why he might do that? He doesn't bark at any other big trucks...just cement trucks. Our 6-year old, Dylan, has grown very fond of Scout, and loves to spend time with him. He's been going to an after-school program, but he's about to start coming home at 2:50 PM every day. I'm sure he'll spend lots of that extra time with Scout. Our 3-year old, Jack, loves to lie next to Scout and hug him...sometimes he uses Scout's tummy for a pillow while he's watching TV.
We hung
a stocking for Scout on the mantle, and Santa left him some new dog toys and
treats! One thing he seems to carry around in his mouth a lot is a stuffed toy
from Old Navy with a squeaker inside. It looks like a little log for the fire
about 8" long. He still loves to be with his frog, too, though. He still carries
it around in his mouth, and presents it to our guests or us. Well, I know I've
told you more than you probably wanted to know! Have fun with Buffy and Jake,
and best of luck with future fosters...y'all sure did a great job with Scout.
