Adopted
Aleya
is
a sweet, reddish blond 3 year old who’s ideal description of how to spend a
day would be to have her new forever-family take turns scratching her belly,
then her ears, then her head, then her belly again.
This girl loves lots of gentle human touching. She’s earned a second “nickname” in her current foster home
of S’more because when you think you are done petting her, she wants S’more
attention.
Aleya comes to GRR after a rocky start in this world.
She was abandoned in the country in Seguin, Texas with a litter of puppies.
We are unsure how long she fended for herself in the wild. After a run in with a pit bull, she was rescued by a kind hearted
person and found her way to GRR after being treated for her injuries with a
full recovery. This is her foster
report:
Aleya is relaxed and confident in her surroundings.
Quite an accomplishment for a girl who has known the "unpleasant
side of humans" and life on the wild side.
Aleya had a lot to learn upon entering foster care and if I had to give
her a progress report, I would give her an A+.
I
have never encountered a dog so eager to please her humans.
She is definitely trainable, but like most, she will require consistency.
She has learned to sit on command, 100% of the time.
She sits calmly at your feet when she is released from her crate, will
sit at the back door when she comes in or out, and comes 100% of the time when
called. Aleya
is trustworthy in the house, although we do limit her to the family room and
kitchen area due to our cat's needs. During
her first weeks here, she exhibited some stress signals but all those resolved
as she gained understanding of her role as "companion".
She has never had an accident in the house, which I find remarkable considering
her history.
An
exuberant 46 pounds of love, Aleya is not a couch potato.
She loves to play tag with our Border collie mix and adopted golden,
she has learned to fetch (still needs a little work here), share toys both inside
and outside and gets along well with 4 cats.
Aleya is learning to swim.
Aleya wants lots of physical attention
and wants to be with you wherever you are.
She loves to be groomed although she is shy about her feet.
Aleya can be a bit of a "love pest" but we have found if we
love her up for several minutes, she will go rest.
Aleya reminds me that daily life should be filled with little nuzzles
on the ear, and we should all be on the receiving end of hugs, and happy smiles.
Aleya is crate trained and prefers to nap
in her crate even if she has other options. Aleya is overcoming her shyness with strangers now that she
knows how much love humans can give. We
do not have children at home but several friends have stopped by with their
children. She loves the kids and
is great about tolerating all sorts of hugs and petting!
She's
an affectionate, companionable dog who would be a wonderful addition to any
family.
