Dear Gold Ribbon,
I just wanted to write
to Gold Ribbon Rescue to thank you for giving us such a wonderful dog.
We attended the Houston Dog Show in the summer of 2000 and visited the Gold Ribbon Rescue booth. Shortly thereafter we started the adoption process. Since we were coming from Houston, the staff you had at that time was very accommodating toward us. A dog named Rex had recently come into your organization. He came to you through the mixed breed rescue in Austin. He was found stray, under weight, etc. He was also heart-worm positive. Anyway, we made the trek to Austin one weekend to meet some dogs. We met Rex and liked him a great deal. So, we stayed overnight and officially got him the next morning. I doubt he was within GRR for a month. We also think he was about 2 years old when we got him.
One of the provisions extended to us was that we could take him with us, provided we get him treated for the heartworms (at GRR expense) at a vet clinic in the Houston area. Like I said earlier, GRR was very accommodating toward us, and we greatly appreciated it.
Rex was a fun dog and as my wife said the best dog she’s ever had. He made lots of friends around the neighborhoods we’ve lived in since we got him. As he would get his daily 1 and a half mile walk around the neighborhood, he would drag us over to whoever was nearby to get petted. Everyone also loved his most identifying mark – a cow lick on the top of his head.
Rex was such a laid-back, friendly dog. He never caused us any problems, and got along with other dogs and cats so well. We finally got another dog about two years ago (from Golden Beginnings here in Houston) and he truly appreciated having a playmate.
Rex was incredibly happy. A huge yard to run around in. Lots of friends and people who loved and cared about him. It really made it totally unfair when in March of this year we found some lumps on his throat. It turned out to be Lymphoma. He finally succumbed to the disease on June 28, and we had to make the difficult decision to put him down. He wasn’t even 7 years old.
In the years that we had him, we brought us a great deal of joy and happiness. He will be truly missed. I just wanted to let you know that we really appreciate the efforts that GRR and other rescue groups do, and to thank you giving us the opportunity to bring such a wonderful dog into our lives.
Sincerely,
Bruce and Margaret Boulanger
