Driedel...
Driedel is an older fellow
(~8) and a little over weight at 102# -- he could stand to loose at least 10#
of that. Dreidel is one of our Golden Gems. He is a return to rescue as his owners living situation
changed and they could no longer keep him. He was originally “Driver” when he
first came to GRR in March 2000. At that time, he had been turned into the shelter
with a shotgun wound. He healed
fabulously and loved his new life as a housedog.
Dreidel is one of those incredible Goldens who is content and happy wherever
he is. He is a mellow fellow and is the perfect dog for someone who loves to have
a big lug laying at their feet all the time.
Dreidel is not a hyper Golden in any way, in fact if you ask him to fetch something,
he will pretend he has absolutely NO IDEA what your talking about! This good
guy has proven himself to be the most versatile and laid back of dogs, wherever
you take him; to a friends home, to the vet, to Petsmart, he will make himself
instantly comfortable by laying on his back and offering his belly to any passersby.
He is totally tolerant of being yanked and pulled by children and will let puppies
and friendly cats walk all over him. Dreidel loves the water and will
gladly go for a swim to keep you company. He is perfectly content in his crate
or can be trusted in a house alone as long as the weather is nice. One of our
favorite things about Dreidel is his amazing vocabulary. He hardly ever barks
but he talks up a storm when he is happy; he shouts and smiles, moans and yawns,
and uses a combination of all of those things to create a very special language
all his own! Dreidel is a little overweight at 100lb.'s but other than that is
in terrific health, the vets just love him! He has a gorgeous full coat, and has
been given a clean bill of health. Dreidel
will be a great dog for a single person, a couple or an entire family!
He is good with other dogs and cats. He has settled back into foster care and
gets this report:
He
is a very gentle old guy and fit right in to our home. He loves to be brushed
and petted. He is funny when he has an itch he can't quit reach with his paw,
he will start rolling around and growl and even will give a bark or two. Jake
and Buffy don't know what to think of this. Buffy just looks at him like he's
nuts and Jake thinks this means he wants to play. He is quite a character.
Dreidel appears to be a
little hard of hearing or else he just doesn't mind well, I believe it is a
little of both. When I talk to him face to face he seems to understand his basic
commands and whatever I am asking of him, but when trying to call him from another
room or even out in the yard he doesn't come or can't hear. If I clap my hands
really loud his ears do perk up. He is also a moocher. I’m going to guess that
his weight problem is due to too many table snacks. He hasn't attempted to get
anything off the counter, but we don't give anyone a chance for that as Jake
is a counter criminal so we are always on our guard.
He seems to be very happy
now, the first day he just kind of laid around but now he is all waggles and
grins when you see him. I just love him, but I love all my fosters.
